Some materials I made for X-Shift, a cyberpunk MMO that unfortunately got canned. It was a great experience and a lot of fun to make these materials, and I got invaluable feedback from the team.
There were supposed to be several districts. Some very dirty worn and ghetto like, and some very wealthy and pristine. Hence the need for materials that were adjustable for both locations. The brick for instance can look very fresh and have a new coat of paint, but the same substance can also generate an instance for the slums, very mouldy, dirty, old and worn. Cool thing is that with instances, you can easily use vertex painting and stamping for cheap decals. For instance a simple logo mask could lerp between a painted wall and the same wall, but with a metallic paint, and the logo would like a metallic sticker/logo. Very handy for fancy store fronts, but also for painting damage and variation.
